Work is getting to a terrible slowdown these few days. Guess its NZ's turn to be in a recession. so! i went out today with SS to visit some retailers. visit Counties Polaris, Magwarehouse.com Manukau, Super furniture and Hyper Tyres. Everyday, i will talk to Ngaio @ Hyper Tyres and finally i get to meet her and the boys today... its quite cool really. When u talk to someone, u will have this idea of how she looks like and what the shop's layout is etc.. but when u are there... its just another whole new picture...
my Dad and two bro are now Kiwis- New Zealand citizens
Lee Hsien Loong, in his 5 days trip to NZ was badly criticized by ministers, oppositions for lack of freedom of speech in spore- him suing opposition Dr Chee for defamation etc. BUT he took it quite well. gave reasonings which we are all by now familiar with and probably carry the "what the heck! its the same old thing again" attitude...
i was watching news the other day re: the power cut in auckland city and this news reporter Susan Wood was questioning, INTERRUPTING and basically pointing fingers/putting blame on the Energy Minister. i was thinking.. Goodness! If this happened in Spore, the reporter will probably be exiled to God knows where and not able to go back to spore...
Come to think of it, in our sociology lect, had this lecturer Leong Wai Teng, he was saying that there is this person who has been staying in Sentosa for ages after he voiced his opinions AGAINST PAP. *quite interesting*

it has been a really chilling week, with temperatures ranging from 5-15. come to think of it, hot, sunny weather is still DA BEST! able to wear tank tops, jeans, jandals etc. able to stroll down the beach and have free vitamin D. able to walk the dog, play in the park. able to eat loads of ice cream... cold weather is just boring. have to put on 3 layers of clothes, stay at home cos u just dun feel like stepping out of the house.. PLAIN BORING!
wz will be going to futher his studies at AUT (Auckland Univeristy of Technology). starting his course in july. is exempted for 2 years so will be doing his third yr. so have spend the day packing our room/wardrobe making space for his books, notes, etc...
tmr its sunday. one more day of late sleeping and then its five continuous day of torture again.... i really need to find a job that is close to where i live so that i dun have to wake up so early....
oh ya! i saw Lee Heisn Loong over here ( on tv lah). was watching rugby( All Blacks Vs Ireland) with NZ PM Helen Clarke. indeed he has aged alot.. he must be thinking: what the heck! im on a business trip to discuss impt issues and here am i watching lame rugby! lol.... just my tots... hahah

unusual MONDAY
its quite interesting to live in a four season country. u never know what the weather brings really....
we woke up to an extremely strong, gusty wind this morning.. it wasn't chilly cold but u can hear the trees bustling and see the branches and leaves sway from one side to another... as usual, woke up, took a warm shower and go to work.... had breakfast at work and got ready to start.. at 8.30ish... POM! the power went out... we tot it was just another power failure.. but not till we know what has really happened!!!
Power restored to Auckland after blackout Power has been restored to most of Auckland after a blackout - thought to be caused by a storm sweeping the country - brought the city to a standstill. More than 700,000 people...
Icy blast causes havoc throughout Canterbury Heavy snow throughout Canterbury today collapsed roofs, cut transport links, closed schools, felled...
auckland has the "tame-est" weather compared to other parts of nz but seems like this winter, we are not spared...
the strong winds apparently snapped one of the earth wires!
A spokeswoman for power company Vector said the cause of the Auckland blackout was a fault on the Transpower network. She said: "An earth wire has snapped and fallen across the 110 kv feeder from the Otahuhu substation."
so auckland went without power. we are all stranded in the office.. looking at the crap gloomy, dark weather... on the other hand, we do not want to leave the office as well ( except to go home lah) bcos the shops, fast food rest, restaurants are all closed cos of the power cut... waited and waited. Boss came over and say that by 12 if the power is not back on.... we will go home.... OH MAN!!! just excellent news.... cos i just want to go home and Zzzz.... loiter ard, did some clearing of old paperworks and at 11.25, my boss was walking ard getting details of where we stay and stuff ( so that transport can be arrange/ car pool etc)
i was all excited when she was doing that but my happiness was SHORT LIVED!!!! piu...... the lights were back on... DAMN!!!! just half and hr more and i'll be on my way home..... wat disappointment man.. really!!! so we went back to our seats BUT was told not to rush to log back on as the system " has just woken up fm a DEEP DEEP SLEEP" so it took another hr or so for business to get back on....
was really fun tho... sth that i had not experience b4.... winds are still howling now... and its really really cold.
and i was just wondering... a country like NZ still have power lines running above ground... its true that the country is big compared to Spore.. and its expensive to have them underground... but sth has to be done really... and this is not the first time that NZ went without power becos of weather... in 1998, Auckland went without power as well... how bad it is an image to the world....

To Susan and Chau Qiu: Thanks for the bdae present! not too bare as well.. just me!!! thanks!
took two days leave to spend my 24th in Rotorua ( again... *boring*). wanted to go skiing but dun think its snowing yet..
so! we went back to the same motel and went for dinner at the luge area. it has views of rotorua but wasn't really nice tho (haha).
went to the wildlife park and came close to a lion cub.
the next day we went to hell's gate for Mud and sulphu spa. we spend 20 mins in the mud spa and later had to wash ourselves in icy cold water before heading on to the sulphur spa.

1) Top Left: came close to a 7 months old lion cub. it was freaky but he was rather harmless. i dun have a pic of myself with the cub cos im afriad that while a pic is taken of me, he might move or sth like that
2) Top right: found in the wildlife park as well. look like kangaroos ay, but are called wallabies... hmm....
3) Middle left: my lunch while on our way home. took another route home via Tauranga and went to Tauranga town to have lunch. decided to have sushi and it was indeed declicious. i chose, oyster, chicken thingy and that fish ( eel?) and that plate of 6 items cost me $10.40!!!
4) Middle right and last pic: me and Mr Baxter. he was abit dong by noon time. so put him down and he went to choose a sunny spot and lie... dogs are lame!
